Valalta. We have been visiting it for the last two years, and we still can’t get over how wonderful the place is. This is a place where you can spend your whole vacation, using your clothes only once – when leaving.
What we will write about:
- About the area itself
- About Rovinj
- About Istria
Accommodation is possible at the campsite (tents, caravans, motorhomes) and in cottages for rent. The campsite has a good standard, electricity, water, densely spread common toilets and internet. The cottages have a nice location, close to the beach, among good olive trees.
In Valalta, we can find almost everything:
- The swimming pool is a nice alternative to the sea, especially when having children
- Many other attractions for children causing families with children to have a paradise here. Slides, inflatable water park, playground
- In a lot of shops, including groceries or bathing equipment
- Marina
- A large selection of good restaurants, and we recommend especially those that serve local seafood.
- Volleyball courts, service, tennis, fitness center, massages
- The beach is concrete and rocky in places, which is rather typical in Croatia. As a consolation, there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas.
- A bit loud and crowded. It may as well be beneficial for the young, that crave some partying, bars, and music. A nearby Koversada is a lot quieter.
If you are in Valalta, you will visit Rovinj
In addition to the resort itself, it is worth visiting the surroundings of Istria. The old town of Rovinj is 10 minutes away by car and is a lovely place to stroll among the colorful houses and narrow streets.
In Rovinj, you will find some interesting sights:
- The old town of Rovinj is a charming and picturesque area with narrow cobbled streets, colorful houses, and charming squares. And all these streets lead to the beautiful St. Euphemia square. Here we recommend you have a coffee and enjoy the atmosphere of this place.
- One of the most distinctive sights in Rovinj is the Church of St. Euphemia. The church is named after the patron saint of the city. The church has a baroque bell tower, from which there is a wide view of the city and the sea.
- Rovinj Aquarium: This small but fascinating aquarium is a great place to learn about the marine life of the Adriatic Sea.
- Rovinj Heritage Museum: This museum is located in the old town hall and offers an exciting look at the history and culture of Rovinj. The museum has a collection of artifacts and exhibits of works from the city.
- The port of Rovinj is a lively place where you can watch the boats coming and going. From here, you can also go on a boat trip along the coast. There are also some nice restaurants and cafes along the harbor.
These are just a few things worth seeing and experiencing in Rovinj. The city is full of charm and beauty, and there is always something new and interesting to discover.
And on to Istria
Istria is a large peninsula on the Adriatic coast and, in our opinion, the most beautiful region in Croatia. The nature here is stunning, but it is worth immersing yourself in the rich history (for a long time, this peninsula was Italian), culture, and delicious local cuisine.
There are many things to see and experience in Istria, including
- Pula Arena is an ancient amphitheater that is one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the world. It was built in the 1st century AD, and the arena is still used for concerts and events, albeit without the gladiators.
- The Euphrasian Basilica is a beautiful basilica located in Poreč and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The basilica has stunning mosaics and is a must for anyone interested in art and history.
- The Brijuni Islands have a national park where you can see various animals, including zebras and exotic birds.
- Motovun forest, which is located in the central part of Istria and is famous for its beautiful hiking trails and stunning views. The forest is also home to many wildlife, including deer and wild boar.
And since the whole region is famous for its good wine, be sure to visit a local winery and sample some local vintages.
If we discover something in Istria next year, we will certainly add it to this list.
In summary
When choosing a place for your next clothes-free holiday, remember that in Croatia, on the wonderful Adriatic coast, in charming Istria, lies the beautiful town of Rovinj. And just outside Rovinj, there is the wonderful resort of Valalta. This is a hidden gem not only of Croatia but of the entire Mediterranean. Those who haven’t been there should fix this error as soon as possible.
As for us – our holiday in Valalta was an absolute dream. The resort is stunning, the amenities are top-notch, and the surroundings are beautiful. We can’t wait to come back and experience it all again. For a third time:)
